TYNE VALLEY - The Tyne Valley Drug Mart Tornadoes handily defeated the Elmsdale Corner Gas Regals from Alberton 7-4 at the Community Sports Centre here Friday night.
The Easy-Stow Senior Hockey League Contest saw the Tornadoes take a decisive lead in the opening period scoring five times, while the visitors responded only once. The Regals put up a valiant effort in the second however, scoring three goals, two of them by Donald Stewart (2-1). But the Tornadoes Jeremy Martin added two more (one late in the second and the only goal of the third) to secure his team's lead and the win.
Also scoring a pair for the home team was Alex McCaull, while Colin MacArthur (1-1), Wayne Biggar and Jason Ellis added singles. Assisting were Darcy Hutchinson, Greg MacDougall, Adam Ballum, Perry Grigg and Trevor Hernwood.
The Regals other goals were shot in by Chris Avery and Chris Gordon (1-1). Assists were by Alex MacDonald (2), Morgan DesRoches, Zach MacDonald and Mitchell Hardy.
Tornadoes Jeff Noye had a busy night stopping 37 of 41 shots on net. Mitchell Gordon turned away 22 of 29 shots on goal in a losing effort for the Regals.
