Senior league now looking likely
ALBERTON -- Tuesday's make-or-break meeting for Prince County's Easy-Stow Senior Hockey League didn't happen, but that's a good thing suggests the league commissioner, Jeff Ellsworth.
The teams -- Tignish Aces, Alberton Regals, O'Leary Maroons, Tyne Valley Tornadoes, Wellington Flyers and Kensington Granites -- had been given until Tuesday to decide whether they had enough players to fill their rosters.
Ellsworth said the meeting didn't happen because two of the teams had practices scheduled.
"We were talking to all the teams and they're going," Ellsworth announced.
That's a big step up from a week earlier, when only three of last year's teams were ready to commit.
Ellsworth said commitment from four teams was needed by Oct. 28 or the league would not be operating. Teams extended an invitation to players from Summerside to join their rosters.
Ellsworth is now confident the league will be operating. The meeting has been rescheduled for Nov. 4.
"We'll get the schedule ironed out and go from there," he said.
