TIGNISH - The Tignish Aces absence from the Easy-Stow Senior Hockey League lasted less than 48 hours.
The Aces advised league commissioner Jeff Ellsworth Saturday they were withdrawing from the 2008/09 season due to a shortage of players. By the time a league meeting was held Monday night in O'Leary, however, the defending league champions had their team back on the rails.
"Tonight at six o'clock we made some phone calls," said Aces rep Gary McRae following Monday's meeting, adding the players gave the commitment needed for the Aces to ice a hockey team.
So, insted of meeting to draft Aces players, the league's team reps simply dealt with a few housekeeping matters.
"Full steam ahead," said Ellsworth, as the league will proceed with six teams.
The Aces will open their season Wednesday night in Kensington and will play their home opener Friday night at 8:15p.m. at Credit Union Arena.
"It's good to see them back in the league," the commissioner acknowledged. "Six teams are better then five."
