KENSINGTON - The rebuilt Kensington Club/Clark Insurance Granites will host the Easy-Stow Senior Hockey League defending Champions, Tignish Aces, in their home opener Wednesday.
Game time at Community Gardens is 8:00p.m.
The Granites coming off two strait disappointing campaigns, feel confident that they have turned the corner for the better.
"We have a strong commitment from a great core of players," said Granites spokesman Gary Gallant.
"We have added some quality hockey players that are committed to putting an entertaining product in Kensington."
Gallant has announced that Summerside native and former goaltender Todd Richard, who is also an on-ice official, will be the teams new head coach for the 2008-09 season.
Trevor Whelan, Craig Warrick, Jasun Campbell, Steven Barlow, and Ben and Andy Ramsay are all returning from last years squad.
Between the pipes
In goal, newcomer Tim MacPhee, who played the past 3 seasons with the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League, Joins returning netminder Matt Dawson.
On the blue line, the Granites have added Kirk Johnson, Jonathan Cameron, Jon Clark and Ronnie Pineau.
Up front, the granites have signed local favorites Andrew Hayes, Jonathan Doiron, Dale Dickieson and Kirk MacPhee.
These four players were all instrumental in the success of the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers in the Island Junior Hockey League.
Another key signing was acquisition of forward Mark Gregory.
"Fans can expect a new and motivated Granites team this year." said Gallant
