KENSINGTON - It didn't take John Murphy long to have an immediate impact for the Kensington Club/Clark Insurance Granites.
The hard-nosed defenceman scored a goal and helped set up another in his season debut as the Granites doubled the Tyne Valley Tornadoes 4 - 2 in Easy-Stow Senior Hockey League action Wednesday night.
Before 210 fans at Community Gardens, Kirk MacPhee (1-1), Johnathan Doiron and Cory Conway also scored for the Granites, who received other helpers from Steven Barlow (2) and Jasun Campbell.
Jason Ellis and Robbie Bulger replied for the Tornadoes. Justin Grady and Colin MacArthur added helpers.
The Tornadoes lead 2 - 1 after one period and the Granites took a 4 - 2 advantage into the second intermission.
Overall, Kensington outshot Tyne Valley 41 - 29. Winning goaltender was Tim MacPhee and Nick Heer suffered the loss.
The Tornadoes were assessed eight minors, one 10 minute misconduct and one game misconduct.
The Granites picked up nine minors and one 10 minute misconduct.
